Great Week

Work from Mental Health Day- Choice wheel.

We had a great week in 6C with some lovely learning taking place. Children created some information leaflets on how to stay safe during this time of COVID 19. We did a lot of work on developing a positive mindset and in support of Mental health day and also created our designs for our Christmas cards. These designs were sent home today for you to see and make your order. Please continue to support your child with their reading, timetables, spellings, and any other homework. Have a great weekend.

School’s Out For Summer

Dear Year 5,

One of the strangest things about ending school this year is not being able to wish you all a wonderful Summer holiday, in person.

From us teachers, we want to end the school year by saying how proud we are of each and every one of you: how you have adapted to learning at home; the dedication you have shown towards continuing with your learning; the positivity you have maintained throughout. It has been outstanding, and you should all feel extremely proud of yourselves.

School closes today, and so will our class blogs. Over the summer, we want you to keep reading regularly and complete any tasks that your new Year 6 teachers have set you.

We hope you have a fantastic summer holiday, and we look forward to seeing you again in the Autumn Term.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

A Letter To Your Teacher

Hi 5C,

The school year is drawing closer to a close and many of you are keen to meet your new teachers. So, today I want to encourage you to write a letter to your teacher to be.

They would love to know what your aspirations are for the next year. Why not take some time to share your hopes with them?

Writing a good letter might seem hard, but it’s easy once you get started. I suggest the following steps:

  1. Write your name and the date in the upper right corner. The date will tell your teacher when you wrote the letter, and your first and last name will help them remember you if they choose to cherish your letter for years to come.

  1. Start your letter with “Dear” followed by your teacher’s name and a comma. If you don’t know who they are, ask an adult at home. An email has been sent to them to let you know. 😉 Skip a line and get ready to write the main body of your letter.

  1. Start with 1 to 2 sentences telling your teacher what the letter is about. For example, ‘I’m writing this letter to let you know how excited I am to meet you. This year was cut short so suddenly, but you will be there next year.’

  1. Now, give your teacher a few examples of what you are hoping for this Autumn Term. Consider what you hope to achieve in Year 6. To make your letter more personal, tell them how their teaching can help you improve something that you wish to develop confidence in. Also, let them know what you enjoy and what you’re exceptional at.

  1. Finish the body of your letter by reminding them how excited you are to meet them. Then close and sign off your letter with ‘Yours faithfully,’ followed by your name.

Remember to use your best handwriting, as you want to leave a great, first impression. You can share your letters on the class blog. Your new teacher will be able to read them here. We teachers always appreciate letters from our students letting us know their thoughts.

Whole School Song 2020

Good morning 5C,

Moving up into Year 6 can be nerve-wracking, and you might be feeling a range of emotions: excitement, worry, happiness, wonder…

If you are feeling any of the emotions above, that’s totally normal. It’s important to remind yourself that every new experience is a learning opportunity, and how we feel is a necessary part of it.

That’s why for this week’s theme of transition, you can help make a whole school music video for the song ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley.

Click the link below to listen to the song.

What favourite song makes you feel positive, and why?

Did you know that you can be a part of our whole school song, even from home? Ask an adult for permission to film yourself dancing, singing, acting, or playing an instrument to the song! The whole family can take part! All of your contributions will be mixed into one whole school montage to be sent home for you to enjoy.

Visit the Torridon Creative Arts Blog to find instructions for how to take part and a copy of the music score if you wish to play an instrument.

We look forward to receiving your contributions!

Domino Square

Welcome back 5C,

It’s that time of the week again. Tuesdays are reserved for maths, and I’m excited to see who can solve today’s puzzle.

Below are four dominoes.

The four dominoes can be arranged in a square pattern, like the one below.

  1. If each side of the square must add up to 12, how might the dominoes be arranged?
  2. Is there more than one possible solution?

If you have a set of dominoes at home, you can use them to help you solve the problem. Otherwise, use a piece of paper to draw the domino square, or jot down your own solutions.

You can take a photo of your working out and share it on the blog, or leave your answers in the comments.

Have fun investigating!
